New Visitor Experience

According to Larry Johnson, Superintendent at Jewel Cave National Monument, it had been fifty (50) years since the exhibits had been updated at Jewel Cave. On Thursday, September 26, 2013 the public was invited to the Monument to celebrate the completion of a "New Visitor Experience" and to hear comments from several notable folks from Superintendent Johnson to Jan Conn, who along with her late husband Herb Conn, are most likely responsible for Jewel Cave becoming and remaining a true Black Hills Jewel.
The day's events included: Welcome and Introductions at 1:00 p.m. by Bradley Block - Chief Of Interpretation, Jewel Cave National Monument; Advancing the NPS Education Mission at 1:10 p.m. by Patty Trap - Deputy Regional Director, NPS Midwest Region; Stewardship of Jewel Cave 1:30 p.m. by Larry Johnson - Superintendent, Jewel Cave National Monument; Enhancing the Visitor Experience at 1:45 p.m. by Jim Hagen - Secretary of Dept. of Tourism, State of South Dakota; Discovering the Ongoing Changes at 2:00 p.m. by Jan Conn - Early Explorer, Jewel Cave National Monument; Partnering for Success at 2:15 p.m. by Steve Baldwin - Executive Director, Black Hills Parks and Forests Association; Connecting People to Parks at 2:30 p.m. by David Ressler - Executive Director, Custer Area Chamber of Commerce; Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 2:45 p.m. Custer Area Chamber of Commerce.
The ribbon was cut and The New Visitor Experience was officially open.
If you have not been to Jewel Cave National Monument to see the new exhibits you need to go. When there, take time to tour the cave and hike the trails.
